Update: I switched from a straight razor to a shavette for my neckline work about three months back
I used to be all about the classic straight razor for cleaning up necklines and edges. It felt traditional and I liked the weight of it. But after a client in my chair in Phoenix flinched hard during a touch-up, I got nervous about the blade. I switched to a shavette, the kind that uses disposable half blades. The learning curve was real for the first ten shaves or so, the angle is different and it feels lighter. But now I can do the same sharp line work without worrying about honing or the liability of a fixed blade. It's just faster and cleaner for me, especially on busy days. Has anyone else made a switch like this and found it changed their speed or confidence?

Honestly that client flinch would have done it for me too. Tbh picturing someone jumping in the chair while you're holding a straight razor is a real bad time. Good call on the switch, even if the shavette feels weird at first. Ngl the idea of not having to sharpen a blade ever again sounds pretty sweet.

That flinch is a full stop sign. You can't trust a blade that long with someone who moves like that.
