Went through the exact same thing a few years back. Dropped like 70 bucks on a fancy diamond steel because the guy at the shop swore it was the best thing since sliced bread. Used it for maybe two months and my knives were still dull as a butter knife. My old coworker handed me his beat up ceramic rod one day and it was like night and day. Lesson learned the hard way, price tag doesn't mean much when it comes to getting a decent edge.
