Pro tip: Stop using thinning shears on curly hair like I did for years
I tried using my regular thinning shears on a client with tight 4c curls last month in Atlanta and it was a disaster. Her hair looked choppy and uneven after I finished, and she was not happy. I had to redo the whole cut using only texturizing shears with wider teeth. I learned that standard thinners just rip through curly textures instead of blending them. Now I keep a separate pair of wide-tooth texturizers just for my curly clients. Anyone else had to switch up their tool setup for different hair types? What shears do you use for tight curls?

Oh man, I've been there too. I actually read somewhere that thinning shears can cause split ends in curly hair because they cut the strand at a weird angle, which makes sense now looking back. I used to use cheap thinning shears on my own wavy hair and it always looked fried after a while. I definitely think the wider tooth texturizers are the way to go for any kind of curl pattern, even looser waves. It's crazy how much damage those standard ones can do without you even realizing it.

Did you ever try those wider tooth texturizers on your own hair green.mason? I used to swear by my regular thinning shears for years but now I'm wondering if that's what wrecked my ends. This makes me want to take a closer look at my tools because I never thought about the angle thing before.
