Old timer at my barber shop changed my mind on straight razor care
I always cleaned my straight razors with just hot water and a towel between clients. Last month an older barber who used to work downtown came in for a haircut and watched me do it. He told me I was dulling the edge faster by not drying them properly with a cloth, and that a drop of mineral oil after every use makes them last years longer. I tried it for two weeks now and my blades feel sharper and I haven't had to hone them nearly as often. Has anyone else been using oil on their razors or am I the last to figure this out?

Man that's a solid tip, oil really does make a difference.

It's funny how often the simplest things get overlooked, isn't it? I notice that with a lot of small habits like that, once you start paying attention you realize they change the whole outcome. Makes you wonder what else we're missing just by not trying the obvious stuff first.
