My regular at the shop told me he's been cutting his own hair for a year now

I was finishing up a fade on a guy named Mark yesterday, and he casually mentioned he hadn't paid for a cut since last March. He said he bought a $30 set of clippers and just watches videos. It made me stop and think, you know? We always talk about building a client base, but are we missing something if people feel they can do it just as well at home? What's the best way to show someone the value of coming in here versus doing it themselves?

Yeah, and it's not just about the cut. A lot of guys don't realize how hard it is to get the back and sides even on your own. You can show them the difference in the mirror, point out the clean lines and blending they just can't do themselves. It's about selling the result, not just the service.

My husband tried to cut his own hair once and it was a DISASTER for weeks.

Honestly, that's gotta be a weird feeling to hear. Do you ever ask those guys what made them want to try it in the first place? Like, was it just to save money, or did they have a bad experience somewhere? Tbh, I feel like once they mess it up bad enough, they'll be back.
