Just hit 1000 haircuts in my book and the feeling is weird

I was cleaning up my station last night and decided to count the little tick marks I keep in the back of my appointment book. I started doing it as a joke when I opened my own chair two years ago, just to see how many heads I'd get through. Well, I hit 1000 exactly. It's a big number, but honestly it made me think about all the repeats. Like, maybe 600 of those are from the same 30 guys who come in every two weeks. It's cool to have that steady work, but part of me wonders if I'm getting too comfy, you know? I love my regulars, but I don't want my skills to get stale just doing the same fades. How do you guys balance keeping your regulars happy while still trying new stuff or bringing in different kinds of cuts?

Started offering one "wild card" appointment per week where I tell the regulars upfront they're my test dummy for something new lol. I just let them know I'm trying a different technique and they get 20% off. It's been great because my regular guys actually look forward to seeing what I come up with, and a few of them have switched up their usual cut after seeing how something looked on someone else. The key was keeping it to just one slot so I don't feel pressured to experiment on everyone.

Maybe offer a free style-upgrade slot once a month for your regulars to try something new.

Love that idea. My barber does something similar and it's how I ended up liking a shorter cut I never would've tried.
