Hit 10,000 haircuts last Thursday and it hit me different than I expected

I've been cutting hair for about 14 years now, mostly in a small shop in Columbus. Last week I did my 10,000th haircut. I know that sounds like a lot but I did the math based on my old appointment books. It was just a regular guy coming in for a mid fade and a beard trim, nothing special. But after he left I just stood there for a minute thinking about all the people and all the stories I've heard in that chair. 10,000 is a lot of trust from folks letting you touch their head. Has anyone else ever sat down and counted up their cuts, or did I just have a slow day?

I mean, 10,000 is just a number on a page though. 14 years of haircuts is a solid career, for sure, but maybe it's just me but that moment of deep reflection feels a little forced. It's a haircut, not brain surgery, you know?

Ha, @kellymurphy is out here acting like she's never had a haircut that changed her whole vibe. I get it though, it's just scissors and hair. But man, some people get real philosophical about a fresh fade. Maybe the guy was just trying to make small talk and got carried away.
