Had a client say something that still bugs me 2 years later
This guy in his 50s sits down in my chair in Tucson. He looks at my scissors and clippers and says "You know my old barber Ray used a straight razor for everything. Even cleaned up my neck with it. Real barber work." I told him I use a razor for some stuff but prefer clippers for bulk. He just goes "Huh. Different generation I guess." Walked out and left a 2 dollar tip on a 35 dollar cut. Stung more than it should have. Anyone else get dismissed like that for not working the oldschool way?

You got a buddy who drives a tow truck? He told me about an old guy who tipped him a nickel and a lecture about how real tow truck drivers used chains, not flatbeds. Some people just need to feel superior about the past.

That "different generation" line is just a polite way of saying your work isn't good enough. Two bucks on a thirty five dollar cut says everything about how little he respected you. Bet his old barber Ray was just an ordinary guy who got elevated into a legend.
