Finally figured out why my fades looked bumpy after 8 months
I've been cutting hair for about 3 years now but my fades always had these little ridges I couldn't smooth out. Last Tuesday I had a guy named Marcus in my chair who used to work in a shop in Portland. He watched me do a zero fade and just quietly said "you're angling your clipper too steep." That one sentence hit me hard. I had been holding the clipper at almost a 90 degree angle to his head instead of keeping it more flat. Soon as I flattened my wrist on the next section the blend came out way smoother. Anyone else have that "aha" moment where a customer or another barber pointed out something obvious you had been messing up for months?

Same thing happened to me took a year to figure out I was pushing too hard on the comb.

Took me a solid two years to realize I wasn't lining up the guard right on my trimmer lol. Ended up looking like I gave myself a reverse mohawk every time I touched it up. At least we figured it out eventually though, right?
