My stand mixer bowl cracked mid batch of cookies yesterday

I was mixing up a double batch of chocolate chip cookies for a bake sale and about halfway through the dough, the glass bowl just split right down the side. Dough and glass shards went everywhere on my counter and I had to toss the whole batch. Has anyone else had a KitchenAid bowl fail like that or should I switch to a metal one?

35 years ago I dropped the glass bowl from my old Sunbeam mixer and it shattered across the kitchen floor. Spent the whole night picking tiny glass slivers out of the linoleum and had to buy a whole new mixer because they didn't sell replacement parts. So yeah metal bowls are the way forward.

And honestly even if it wasn't a temperature thing, I've heard those glass bowls just don't hold up over time with heavy dough like chocolate chip. Metal bowls are way tougher and won't shatter if you accidentally drop it or scrape it with a metal spoon. I switched to a stainless steel one years ago and never looked back.
