My sister told me to stop guessing at yeast and I'm glad I listened
My sister came over last weekend while I was making cinnamon rolls and watched me dump a packet of yeast into warm milk straight from the tap. She grabbed my wrist and said "you gotta proof it first or you're just gambling." I thought she was being dramatic but I let her show me how to add sugar and wait for bubbles. First batch of rolls I've ever made that actually puffed up right instead of turning into hockey pucks. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on a bad baking habit?

Wait wait wait... tap water kills the yeast sometimes, right?

Nah, tap water is fine for yeast as long as you're not using boiling hot water from the tap.
