My friend insists you can't fix a sunken cake center, but I did it last Tuesday
I was making a chocolate layer cake for a birthday in my kitchen, and the middle sank a full inch after cooling. I just filled the dip with extra frosting, stacked the next layer on top, and nobody at the party even noticed. Why do people act like a small collapse means the whole thing is ruined?

Honestly, people get way too hung up on bakery-perfect looks. Tbh most home bakes have a flaw or two, that's what makes them real. My grandma's famous spice cake always caves a bit, we just call it the buttercream swimming pool. Fixing it quietly with extra frosting is the real pro move, not tossing it.

Call that the grandma tax, gotta pay up with extra frosting.

Oh man, I used to stress so much if my cakes cracked or sank. I'd see it as a total fail. But calling it a buttercream swimming pool actually makes it sound kind of special, like a family thing. That really flips how I see my own messy bakes now.
