My cake fail in a French village kitchen

I was visiting a friend in a French village and tried to bake a cake. Their oven was very old and I didn't know how to set it right. The cake burned on top but was still wet in the middle. My friend laughed and said it was the thought that counted. Have you ever had a baking disaster while traveling?

Yeah, that "thought that counted" thing is so real. My friend once tried to make cookies at a beach house and they spread into one giant pan blob. We just broke off pieces and called it abstract art, lmao.

My cousin tried making macarons from a youtube tutorial last year and they came out as weird flat sticky blobs. We still ate them because she used good chocolate filling, but the texture was totally wrong. It looked like alien food.
