My uncle told me to always add a pinch of salt to my sweet doughs.

He said it would make the flavors pop, and I tried it in my cinnamon roll recipe last week. The difference was huge, the whole batch tasted richer and more balanced. Anyone else have a simple tip like that that actually works?

It reminds me of my grandma's trick for fruit pies. She swore by a tiny bit of black pepper in the apple filling. It sounds strange, but it cuts the sweetness just enough without tasting spicy at all.
