The font on the Springfield courthouse evacuation map froze me for 8 seconds
I had jury duty in Springfield two months ago and the fire alarm went off during the morning break. Everyone stood up and looked at the big evacuation map by the elevators, and I swear I could not read it. The whole thing was in some curly script font, thin and slanted, with the exit arrows drawn in the same style. I stood there for a good 8 seconds squinting at the word for the stairwell before the guy next to me just pointed and said "stairs, that way." Now every time I make a map or sign for my kid's school events I use plain block letters and test it from 10 feet away. Has anyone else run into safety signs where the font actually slowed people down?
