The new park bench in my town has a backrest that's only 6 inches tall.
It's literally just a decorative strip of wood that hits you right in the lower back, completely useless for actual sitting. What's the most pointless design you've seen lately?

That bench sounds like it was designed by someone who has never sat down outside in their life. The worst part is they probably paid extra for that "feature" wood. My town installed these new trash cans with lids so heavy you need two hands to open them, which is impossible if you're actually holding trash. It feels like a lot of public stuff gets designed just to look good in a brochure now.

We had a similar thing with bus stop shelters that had no actual roof over the bench, just a tiny decorative awning. I ended up taking pictures and sending them to the city council member's office with a short note about how it failed at its basic job. They actually replaced it with a proper shelter the next year. Sometimes you just have to point out the obvious flaw to the people who paid for it.
