The microwave at my new office has 47 buttons and none of them are just 'start'
I started a new job in Sacramento last month and the break room microwave is a genuine crime against humanity. It has 47 buttons (I counted, twice, because I had 8 minutes of lunch left and nothing better to do) and not one of them is a simple start button. There are preset buttons for things like 'beverage' and 'popcorn' and 'dinner plate' but when I just want to heat my leftover burrito for 90 seconds I have to press 'cook by weight,' then punch in a number, then hit a tiny button labeled 'enter,' which is somehow smaller than the 'cancel' button that I keep hitting by mistake. The worst part is the display shows a countdown in this weird red font that looks like it was designed in 1987 and nobody can read it from more than two feet away. I watched a grown man in a suit stand there for a full minute just staring at it last Tuesday, and he eventually gave up and ate his soup cold. Why do appliance makers think more buttons equals better design? Has anyone else encountered a kitchen appliance that made them feel genuinely stupid?
