The 30 dollar spice grinder that turned into a fire hazard in Tulsa

Picked up a cheap spice grinder from a discount store last month. First use was fine, second use the lid fused shut from the motor heat. The plastic housing started melting and smelling like burnt electronics. I pulled it apart and the wires were pinched between the motor and the casing, zero insulation. Has anyone else found a budget tool that was just waiting to catch fire, or did I get the one dud off the line?

That reminds me of a video I watched last week about cheap knockoff appliances failing safety tests, and this one guy tested like six different bargain blenders and half of them had the exact same issue, wires just crammed in there with no strain relief at all. The scary part is these things pass some basic inspection but nobody actually runs them long enough to see what happens when the plastic gets hot. Your grinder sounds like it was built in the same factory as those blenders, honestly, probably the same wiring harness and everything. The fact that the lid fused shut from heat is a huge red flag, that means the motor was cooking way past where it should've shut off. I'd be careful buying anything with a motor from those discount bins, they cut corners everywhere you can't see. Good on you for pulling it apart and checking, most people would've just tossed it and bought another one, not realizing it could've caught fire in their cabinet.
