That week I tried the "no pull" garbage can and it was a disaster
Honestly, I don't get why everyone hates on those step-on garbage cans with the finger hole pull. My office got one of those new "no touch" sensor cans last month and it was a total pain. It kept opening at random times when I walked past it, and then it wouldn't close all the way, so the whole break room smelled like old coffee grounds for 4 days. Has anyone else had a smart can just completely fail at being a can?

Wouldn't close all the way" - did you try smacking the lid?

Did you try pushing down harder in the middle too? @theabennett is right, sometimes those lids just need a little force to actually click into place. I had the same issue with a cooler last summer and a good whack on the side fixed it right up.

Funny enough, it might not even be a pressure or force thing at all. Some of those cooler lids have a tiny tab or alignment notch that's easy to miss if you're not looking for it. I've got a couple of totes that refused to seal until I realized the lid was just ever so slightly off-kilter, like a degree or two rotated from where it should sit. Check the hinge side too sometimes the plastic molding has a tiny burr or flash left over from manufacturing that stops the lid from seating flat. File that little nub down with a nail file and it clicks right into place like magic.
