Just realized my smoke alarm beeped at 3am for 2 straight years because I installed it upside down
My landlord finally came by last Tuesday and pointed at the ceiling in my hallway. The little tab that says THIS SIDE UP was facing the floor the whole time. That thing had been chirping every night since I moved into this place in Boise, and I just thought it was a cheap model. Anyone else find out a basic thing in their home was backwards this long?

Flipping that tab takes like two seconds though, so I get why the landlord pointed it out. What gets me is how you slept through that chirp for two years without losing your mind, because mine went off for one night last month and I was ready to rip it off the wall by morning. Noise like that usually pokes at your brain until you deal with it, so maybe part of you just figured it was the building being old and loud. Boise rentals can be weird like that, but a beep that steady usually means something you can actually fix.
