Just hit step 47 on a 12 step checkout, walked away
I almost pulled my hair out at a gas station pump last night in Phoenix. The screen wanted my zip code, then my loyalty number, then an email for a receipt I didn't ask for, and then it asked if I wanted a car wash. That got me thinking about how many tiny hurdles I hit before actually buying something. I started counting on a quick grocery app order and hit 47 separate taps or swipes before the payment went through. That's 47 chances to screw up or just give up, and I almost did. Why do designers keep stacking these dumb little steps instead of just letting me pay? Has anyone else timed how many clicks it takes to finish a basic purchase lately?
