Found out my building's fire exit sign points to a solid wall
I was reading the local fire inspection report for my apartment complex online last night. It said a unit on the third floor failed because its exit sign, the one with the little running man, points down a hallway that ends at a brick wall. The inspector wrote 'egress path leads to structural barrier, not an exit.' I've walked past that sign for a year and never thought to follow it. Has anyone else found a safety sign that just points to nowhere?

That's actually a good catch by the inspector though. Those signs are supposed to show the direction to travel, not the final door. The wall probably means the real exit is to the left or right of it. Still pretty funny to imagine someone running straight into a brick wall lol.

Yeah but what happens if you actually follow it? Like, is there a door right next to the wall that's just not marked? Or did they just put the sign up facing the wrong way? I mean, if there's a real exit nearby, that's one thing. But if the hallway just ends, that's a whole different level of messed up. Makes you wonder who installed it and if they even looked.
