Honestly, I felt that "makes you feel pretty stupid" bit you said, @simon_black, because it's exactly how I felt too. My old man never showed me the right way either, so I just assumed I knew what I was doing for way too long. It's wild how something so simple can trip you up for years without you even realizing it. Tbh, it's a little embarrassing when you finally get called out, but at least you know now and can stop making the same mistake. Ngl, I still catch myself double-checking the hook even after learning the trick, just to be sure I'm not being dumb again.

How come nobody ever taught us how to use these things properly? I did the same thing with a measuring tape for years until my dad saw me and laughed his head off. It's one of those little things that makes you feel pretty stupid when you finally get called out. At least you found out after 20 years instead of 30, right?
