Showerthought: I thought my $15 paper cutter was fine until a print guy in Reno showed me his $340 one
I ran a small craft booth on the side and was chopping cardstock on a cheap plastic trimmer for about 8 months, always losing a sliver of my margins, until a guy at a print shop in Reno let me try his guillotine cutter while I waited on an order. The first slice was dead square on a 4 inch stack and I honestly felt dumb for arguing with my own crooked edges that long. I went home and bought a $210 version the same week (not the $340 one, I have a budget) and my waste sheets went from like 6 per batch to maybe 1. So my take is I don't need the fanciest tool, but I do need to stop blaming my scissors for lines that were never straight. What's the cheap tool you defended for too long before someone put a real one in your hands?
