My 80s poster layout got praised, but the typography was pure luck
I mocked up a show flyer in Portland last month using a grid I eyeballed from an old punk poster, and everyone loved it, but I honestly couldn't tell you why the spacing works. Meanwhile my last three cookie-cutter designs with proper margins and ratios all got the 'something feels off' note from the band. Is there a real argument for trusting gut instinct over structured rules, or did I just stumble into a result that hides my bad habits?
