Backup drive died 3 days after my client asked for the final cut
I edit videos for a small real estate outfit in Austin and thought I was being SO careful with two backup drives. Last month I finished a 9 minute walkthrough and the client texted me at 9pm saying they wanted a different ending clip. Before I even swapped the footage, my main drive started clicking and my second drive had apparently been corrupted for weeks without me noticing. I lost the project file and 4 hours of color grading because I had no third copy anywhere. The client was actually nice about it, said "just send what you have, we'll live," and I had to admit I had nothing. Anyone else learned the hard way that two backups is really just one backup? I now keep a cheap external at my mom's house across town.

Wait, your second drive was corrupted for weeks and you didn't catch it? How often were you actually testing those things before this blew up?
