Watching a neighbor's studio flood in Seattle last winter made me change my whole foundation plan

See this happen and it makes you realize how many systems we just trust to hold up. We build our whole lives on assumptions about pipes and wires and concrete. That neighbor's flood wasn't just bad luck, it was a total system failure right under their feet. It shows how fragile our normal really is. Makes you want to go check your own place's bones, you know?

Man, this hits home. My uncle's house had a slow leak in a wall for months, totally hidden. By the time they saw the mold, the repair bill was crazy. It's wild how much can go wrong in the places we never even look at. Makes you feel like you gotta be a part-time inspector just to live in your own home. That quiet trust in the building is totally gone once you see it fail.
