Took me 6 months but I finally see why everyone raves about soundproofing with mass loaded vinyl after I hung some in my shed studio and heard the difference in a recording from last Tuesday.

Before I put it up, my vocals had this weird boxy echo that I just thought was my mic, but now that I can actually hear the raw track without that ringing, has anyone else had that moment where you realize your room was the problem all along?

Bought my first house in 2018 and the living room had this weird slap echo. I thought it was just a bad shaped room. Then I hung up some moving blankets as a cheap test and recorded a quick guitar track. The difference was night and day. I ended up spending like 200 bucks on some rockwool panels and built a frame for them. Now I can actually hear where my playing needs work instead of blaming the room. It really makes you wonder how many great takes got deleted because of bad acoustics.

@elliot_harris25 that's exactly how I felt when I finally treated my basement studio. Rockwool panels are a game changer for the price. It's wild how much of your playing you stop blaming on the room once you fix it.

All that time and money and you might just be convincing yourself it sounds better because you expect it to. The human ear is terrible at remembering exact sound, a week later you'd probably think the old room was fine.
