The neighbor's drum pad comment got me rethinking my acoustic foam layout

Last Saturday he said my 2 inch foam panels are too thin for the bass frequencies I'm tracking, and now I'm wondering if I just wasted 300 bucks on the wrong setup, has anyone else gotten that kind of feedback from a non-studio person and actually found they were right?
