That $150 acoustic foam bundle I bought in 2018 did nothing

Bought a $400 shell pack back in 2019 for my backyard shed studio. Thought I could tune my way out of it. Spent every weekend replacing heads, fighting the cheap wood, never got a decent snare crack. Finally borrowed a friend's higher end kit last month and heard the difference instantly. The hardware alone was the problem, not my tuning. Wish someone had told me to save up for a better used kit instead of that budget one. Anyone else dump cash into upgrades for gear that was never worth fixing?
