Talked to a drummer last week, now I'm rethinking my whole studio layout

So I was at a local show in Portland and got chatting with this drummer who builds his own rehearsal spaces. He said he treats the corners of a room like they're the most important real estate, which sounds obvious but I never actually thought about it that way. My backyard studio is 12x14 and I've got my desk shoved in a corner with bass traps behind it, but now I'm wondering if I should flip the whole setup so the listening position faces the short wall instead. Has anyone else changed their room orientation after a random conversation and noticed a real difference in how things sound mixed?
