Swapped my cheap foam for mineral wool and my recordings stopped sounding like a cardboard box

I built my first vocal booth with those squishy foam panels from Amazon last spring. Everything I recorded had this dead hollow sound no matter how I positioned the mic. Last month I ripped it all down and put up two panels of Roxul Safe ‘n Sound in the corners behind my desk. The difference was immediate my voice actually sounds natural now and I don’t have to EQ the life out of it. Anyone else make the switch and feel like they wasted money on the foam at first?

Roxul Safe 'n Sound is actually rock wool, not mineral wool.

Pretty sure Safe 'n Sound is mineral wool though, just a different type than what you'd put in a wall cavity? Rock wool and mineral wool basically describe the same stuff in the home recording world. Either way the point is real acoustic treatment beats foam every time.
