Spent $150 on a bass trap kit and my mixes still sound like they're in a cardboard box

I dropped $150 on one of those foam corner bass trap kits off Amazon and honestly it barely touched the low-end rumble in my 10x12 shed studio. Any of you tried those DIY rockwool panels instead, and did they actually fix your room issues?

Did you put those foam panels directly in the corners, or did you try spacing them out a bit? I spent months fighting low end in my own room before switching to rockwool, and it made a real difference. The foam just doesn't have enough mass to absorb the deep frequencies, it's like trying to stop a tidal wave with a paper towel. I built four 2x4 foot panels using Roxul Safe'n'Sound and some wood frames, and the bass finally tightened up. It took a weekend of work and cost around the same as your kit, but the result was night and day. I still use some thinner foam for early reflections, but for the low end you really need something dense.

I actually tried spacing those foam panels out a couple inches from the corners and it barely did anything. You're telling me you built four 2x4 foot rockwool panels for the same money? I spent $150 on that foam kit and can't even feel a difference in the room, so I'm definitely switching to rockwool.
