My neighbor said a shed kit would be fine for a studio, but I learned the hard way
I was really tight on cash when I started planning my backyard studio, so when my neighbor across the fence said, 'Just get one of those metal shed kits, it's basically the same thing,' I figured I'd save a few grand. I bought a 10x12 foot kit for about $800 and spent a whole weekend trying to put it up with my brother. The panels were flimsy, the instructions were useless, and we couldn't get the roof to seal right at all. The first real rainstorm proved him wrong; water came in through the top and pooled in the middle of the floor. I ended up having to take the whole thing apart and start over with proper wood framing and insulation, which cost me way more in the end. What's the worst piece of backyard studio advice you've ever gotten from a well-meaning friend?

Yeah, my cousin swore I could just use pallet wood for the whole interior... said it was free and had a cool look. Tried it for one wall and the amount of sanding and treating to get it even halfway smooth was insane, plus it just sucked up moisture and started warping after a few months. Ended up pulling it all down.

My buddy tried that for a shed office. Looked okay for a week, then every nail started popping out like little metal mushrooms. He spent more on wood filler than actual lumber would've cost.

The whole interior? That sounds like a total nightmare.
