Looking at permit data for my town and the number of backyard studio applications doubled

I was checking the town hall website for some rules about my own build and saw the permit report. In 2023 they gave out 42 permits for accessory buildings. This year they're already at 85 approved, and it's only August. I guess a lot more people are working from home for good now. It's not just sheds anymore, these are full offices and workshops. Has anyone else here had to deal with a busier permit office because of this?

Yeah, I saw that too... tried to call about my own shed plans and got put on hold for like 20 minutes. Guess my "home office" is gonna stay a laptop on the couch for a while longer.

Hang on, I gotta push back a little here. @nathanh44's buddy in Denver is one thing, but I've actually had pretty good luck with my local permit office the last couple months. Called about a fence permit and got a human in under 5 minutes, plus the guy walked me through the whole form on the spot. I know it's a pain to sit on hold, but sometimes it's just bad timing or a busy day, not the whole system being broken.

My buddy in Denver waited 45 minutes just for a permit quote.
