I used to swear by acoustic foam until a studio builder in Austin set me straight

I had my whole shed decked out in those pyramid foam panels, thinking I was being smart about sound. Then a guy named Marcus who builds studios for a living told me foam only kills high frequencies and leaves your room boomy. He showed me how a few broadband bass traps in the corners did more than all that foam ever did. Anyone else have a builder or engineer change your whole approach to treating a room?

Man, nobody ever mentions how foam can mess with your bass response like that.

Did you notice it right away or did it take some time to click? I had a similar experience a few years back and it really threw me off. You expect foam to clean things up, but instead it just swallows the low end and leaves everything feeling thin. It's frustrating when you put in the effort to treat a room and end up with a worse sound than before. Definitely not something people warn you about enough.
