Frustration with how drainage codes changed for backyard studios
I miss when you could just grade the land and be done. Now they want PERFECT slope calculations and special fabric under everything. Last summer, I had to redo my entire plan because of a code update. It added weeks and a bunch of extra cost for what feels like minimal gain.

Have you thought about how these rules might save you from a lawsuit if your drainage messes up the neighbor's yard? Those fabric layers and exact slopes stop water from pooling and causing foundation cracks. It's a pain now, but it could avoid huge repair bills later.

Totally! Learned that the hard way with my yard flood...

Ugh, read a local news story about a guy who skimped on gravel under his patio drain. Water funneled right into the neighbor's basement wall. Cost him like thirty grand to fix their foundation and settle the suit. Everyone thought he was just being cheap, but those tiny rules about slope and fabric are there for a reason. Really shows how skipping steps can wreck two houses at once.
