Critic said my booth had too much bass. Changed my whole approach.

A buddy came over last month and told me my vocal booth sounded like a tube. I had all this thick foam everywhere but he said it was killing the high end. Swapped half the panels for thinner ones and now my mixes actually translate to car speakers. Anyone else had to undo their own soundproofing?

Whoa, hold on - you really think people are overthinking it? Man, I've been in enough untreated rooms to know bad acoustics can absolutely wreck a recording. Take this with a grain of salt, but I've seen folks spend thousands on a mic and then record in a room with tile floors and bare walls that sounds like a bathroom. In my experience, a little bit of treatment goes a long way, but ignoring it entirely is a recipe for a hollow, echoey mess. Your mileage may vary, but I've had to fix too many tracks ruined by slap echo and boxy room sound to agree with that one.
