Choosing between a concrete slab and a gravel base for my 12x16 studio
I had to pick a foundation for my build in Portland and was stuck between a full concrete slab and a simple gravel pad. I went with the gravel base to save about $2,000 and because my soil drains well. It's been solid for a year now, but I do wonder about long-term settling. Has anyone else used a gravel base for a studio this size and had issues after a few years?

My 10x12 shed in Seattle has been on crushed rock for five years with zero settling. You made the right call saving that cash.

Honestly that tracks. So much stuff is overbuilt when a simple fix works just fine.

No kidding, that's awesome to hear. I did the same thing with my shed base and everyone acted like I was cutting corners. It's like @the_sage said, people just overthink it. Good drainage with that gravel is half the battle right there. Glad it's holding up for you too.
