Bought a $200 acoustic panel kit off Facebook Marketplace, turned out to be 12 inches of foam in an HVAC duct

My snare sounded like a sock in a cardboard box for 3 days before I pulled the panels apart and found they were just self-adhesive weatherproofing strips stuck to furnace filters, so has anyone else gotten scammed by 'studio grade' gear listed by someone's uncle in the suburbs?
