Acoustic panels I thought were snake oil actually fixed my echo problem

I figured those foam squares were just hype, but after recording a podcast in my shed and hearing that awful reverb, I threw up six 2x4 panels for $80 and it killed the flutter echo dead. Has anyone else had a cheap fix like that surprise them?

Killed the flutter echo dead" is a strong claim. I tried those same cheap panels and they barely touched my room's slap echo. The foam just soaked up high frequencies, made everything sound muffled, but the reverb was still there. Ended up having to build thicker rockwool panels to actually fix it.

Saw a video where someone said foam only works if you cover at least 40% of the surface area.
