Unpopular opinion: my dad's old 2-stroke leaf blower beats my $249 battery one, and I found out why at a shop in Tulsa
Stopped by a small engine place in Tulsa last week to get my trimmer fixed and the guy behind the counter said most battery leaf blowers only push around 450 to 500 CFM, while my dad's old backpack unit does closer to 900. I always figured the new one was stronger since it cost more and sounds fancy. Turns out the battery model is nicer for quick jobs on the driveway but it flat out quits on wet leaves along the fence line. The old two-stroke fires through it and doesn't care. Now I'm torn on whether to keep messing with the battery one or just rebuild the carb on the old boy. Anyone here running gas blowers still, or am I the last holdout?
Rebuilding the carb on the old one is what I'd do. Mine sat for two years, I threw a $12 kit at it and it fired on the third pull. The trick for me was soaking the little jets in carb cleaner overnight and blowing them out with air, because varnish hides in places you can't see. Wet leaves are where the gas one earns its keep, no question, the battery one just smears them around. Keep the battery for the driveway and rebuild the old boy for the real work.
