Tried a $20 worm composter, got 400 pounds of castings by accident
Picked up one of those cheap plastic bins at a garage sale in Spokane last spring, just wanted to test if I could make my own potting mix. I fed it kitchen scraps and shredded newspaper, barely touched it for 6 months. When I finally opened it up, the thing was packed solid with black gold, must have been 400 pounds if you weighed it wet. My tomatoes went nuts this year, way better than the bagged stuff I used before. The smell was the weird part, it barely stunk at all once the worms got settled. Anyone else end up with way more castings than they planned for, or is it just me?
