The propane tank cage at the campground off Route 9 had a sign that made me stop and check mine
I was at a campground near Lake George over the weekend and walked past their propane fill station. There was a hand written sign taped to the cage that said they had turned away 6 tanks that month because they were past 12 years old. The guy working there told me the date stamp is on the collar of the tank and most people have no idea it expires. I went home and checked mine and sure enough one was stamped 2011. If you keep spares in your garage for the grill or a heater, go look at the collar this week, has anyone else found one that was way older than they thought?
Did the guy at the fill station say if they just won't fill an old tank or if you have to toss it? Curious what actually happens when you show up with one stamped 2011. Mine might be in the same boat and I'd rather not haul it down there just to get turned around.
Wait, 2011 tanks are already getting turned away? That seems way too soon. I thought the whole deal was you get a good 10 or 12 years before anyone even blinks at the date, and mine is stamped 2013 so now I'm sitting here wondering if I'm next in line to get sent home. Do they at least give you a heads up before you haul the thing across town, or do you just find out at the counter? Hauling a full tank down there just to get waved off would ruin my whole Saturday.
