Tarp vs. metal roof on a carport, which side are you on?
I got into this because my neighbor Ron dropped $340 on a metal roof kit for his carport and won't shut up about it. I've run a $40 tarp with bungee cords for two years now, and it's survived three Nebraska winters without a single flap. He calls it trashy, but I can swap mine out in 10 minutes while he's still aligning his first panel. The debate is simple: do you pay once for something fancy that lasts, or pay little and replace it every few seasons without stress? Has anyone else stuck with tarp and lived to tell, or did you switch to hard roofing after a storm blew yours apart?

Tarp guy here too, and my setup is so sad that even the stray cat that sleeps under my carport looks at it with pity. Been rocking the cheap route for about four years now and yeah, you swap it out fast, but there is a tradeoff nobody talks about. Mine gets loud in wind and the sun eats it alive every couple summers, so it is not exactly free money. Still, for a carport that just needs to keep hail off a truck, the math works for me. Ron's metal roof will probably outlive us both, but he will also be up there cussing at panels while I am already inside drinking coffee. Different strokes, your mileage may vary.
