My shed workbench saga ended with a free couch and a broken saw blade

Last Saturday in Akron I decided to rearrange my garage to fit a workbench I built from scrap pallets. Took me 4 hours to clear out the old shelving, and right as I got the bench in place, my circular saw kicked back on a loose nail and snapped the blade. The kickback also sent a coffee mug flying into my neighbor's fence, and he came over laughing with a replacement blade he had in his truck. We ended up drinking cheap beer and using the freed-up corner to store his old couch that he swore was haunted. The bench still wobbles on one leg, but now I have a place to sit and a saw that cuts straight. Has anyone else had a project turn into a neighborhood hangout spot by accident?

Notice how the messiest projects always end up being the ones that actually bring people together. The bench, the blade, and the couch are just props for the real story, which is two neighbors shooting the shit over cheap beer. That's the pattern I keep seeing, we plan for the work but the best part is always the accidental hangout that follows.
