Just hit 200 pounds of compost from my backyard pile - surprised myself

I started a compost pile in the corner of my yard about 8 months ago, just tossing kitchen scraps and grass clippings in there. Never really measured anything until last weekend when I had to move the bin. I scooped out the finished stuff into a wheelbarrow and it came out to 200 pounds exactly when I weighed it on my bathroom scale. That's enough to top dress my whole vegetable garden twice. I was just doing it to cut down on trash, didn't expect to actually get that much usable soil. Has anyone else been surprised by how much their pile puts out in a season?

Didn't I read somewhere that finished compost can weigh almost half as much as the original scraps?
