Had a chat with my neighbor about why his shed has lasted 20 years
He said he never used pressure treated wood for the floor because it sweats and rots from underneath, just used cedar on gravel. Made me wonder if half the stuff I build in my garage is doomed to fail in a decade.

...and the thing is, there's a huge gap between what wood scientists know and what we actually do in our backyards. That neighbor's been working with the ground instead of against it, which most people skip. Pressure treated lumber still wicks moisture from the ground if you don't give it airflow underneath. I'd bet half those shed failures come from people building on flat concrete slabs with no drainage, not from the wood itself.

Man, you hit the nail on the head @jennifer_fisher. I've seen SO many sheds rot out just because people skip the simple stuff like airflow and drainage. It's like everyone wants the quick fix but forgets the basics.
