Bought a $19 harbor freight tarp for my firewood, swore by the expensive one for years
My old 12x20 canvas tarp finally rotted out after 4 winters in the yard. I ran to harbor freight and grabbed their cheapest gray poly one just to get through the rain that night. Two months later it's still holding, no rips, and it weighs nothing when I drag it off the pile. The $80 canvas one I babied for years always got stiff and heavy when wet. Anyone else find the cheap tarp actually beats the fancy one for covering stuff?
Man, two months is nothing though. I've had cheap poly tarps that made it a whole summer before the sun turned them into confetti. UV eats that thin weave alive and you won't see it coming, it just splits one day when you pull it. The canvas one was probably heavy and stiff because it was actually doing its job, blocking sun and breathing a little instead of cooking your wood into a sweatbox. Come back after a full year of real weather and let us know if it's still in one piece. I'm not saying the $80 one was a bargain, but four winters is four winters.
