Vent: Took the shortcut over Bishop Pass, lost the trail by noon
Was on the John Muir Trail section near Dusy Basin last October. Map said a use path cut a mile off. Followed cairns that stopped after a rock field. Got cliffed out above a creek. Had to backtrack 2 hours in wind. Lesson: those shortcuts around Bishop are rarely actual routes. Anyone else get duped by faint paths in the High Sierra?
